Spanish sailing championship 2023

14 December 2023 Regattas
Campionat Espanya Vela 2023

Between December 6th and 10th, the Masnou’s water hosted 28 participants in the Spanish Sailing Championship 2023, a competition that determines who has the honor of being part of the national team representing Spain at the upcoming Youth Sailing World Championship and European Youth Sailing Championship next summer.

Adverse Weather Conditions

Inclement weather allowed only two days of competition out of the planned four, with only six of the twelve scheduled races taking place. Nevertheless, the intensity remained constant.

The first day posed a challenge with winds ranging from 8 to 12 knots from the southwest. On the second day, lack of wind prevented the boats from taking to the water. The third day, unstable southwest winds with intensities of 5 to 12 knots provided participants with the opportunity to showcase their skills in variable conditions. Unfortunately, the last day’s conditions did not allow the competition to continue.

Results of the 2023 Spanish Sailing Championship

After team training sessions that began in September, this regatta has been an opportunity to showcase emerging talent in the world of youth sailing and within our club. With the results come the names of our winners and qualifiers.

Among our sailors, Sara Ayats stood out, securing the 8th position, 2nd in the Female Under-18 category, and 2nd in the overall female category. Matteo Galindo finished 10th, while Joan Pla secured the 12th position and 4th in the Male Under-20 category. Anna Pla and Aina Artalejo shone in their categories, securing the 25th and 26th positions, respectively. Thomas Prats closed the list with the 27th position.
